Arunachal Pradesh, the “Land of the Rising Sun,” is a paradise of snow-clad peaks, lush valleys, and ancient monasteries. From the serene Tawang Monastery to the breathtaking Ziro Valley and pristine rivers, it offers unmatched natural beauty and cultural diversity. A haven for adventure, spirituality, and tribal traditions, it is one of India’s most enchanting frontiers.
Your journey begins with a warm welcome upon arrival at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station. From here, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Bomdila, a picturesque hill town nestled in the Eastern Himalayas. As the road ascends, the landscape transforms from Assam’s lush plains to the cool, green hills of Arunachal. After a long drive, you’ll reach Bomdila by evening and check in to your hotel for an overnight stay. (Elysium Hotel or Similar)
After breakfast, explore the highlights of Bomdila, including a visit to the serene Bomdila Monastery and a short walk through the local market or viewpoints. Later, you’ll proceed to Dirang, a charming town just a couple of hours away. En route, enjoy stops at the region’s beautiful apple and kiwi orchards. Upon arrival in Dirang, visit the soothing hot water springs, the traditional Dirang Dzong village, and the scenic Chug Valley before settling in at your hotel.
This day is dedicated to discovering the beauty of Dirang. Begin your morning with a visit to Sangti Valley, famous for its pristine river and seasonal black-necked cranes. Continue to the TDL Buddhist Monastery, set against a tranquil backdrop. The rest of the day is free for leisure, allowing you to soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this highland retreat.
Today, you’ll head towards Tawang, crossing the dramatic and snow-dusted Sela Pass, perched at 13,700 feet. On the way, stop at the mystical Paradise Lake near the pass. As you descend, take time to admire the thundering Nuranang Falls before continuing to Tawang. By evening, you’ll arrive in this culturally rich town and check in for a restful night.
After breakfast, begin your exploration of Tawang with a visit to the majestic Tawang Monastery, one of the largest in Asia. Continue to the Tawang War Memorial, a solemn tribute to Indian soldiers. You’ll also visit the Army High Altitude Canteen, where you can interact with army personnel and browse unique souvenirs. The day concludes with a relaxed stroll through Tawang’s bustling local market.
A highlight of the trip awaits as you set off on a full-day excursion to Bumla Pass, the historic Indo-China border (permits required). Along the route, stop at the enchanting Madhuri Lake (Shonga-Tser Lake), known for its cinematic beauty, and the serene Pangateng Tso Lake. You’ll also visit the ancient Chakzam Bridge, a rare 14th- century iron chain suspension bridge built by a Tibetan monk. Return to Tawang in the evening.
After breakfast, begin your journey south toward Shergaon, a hidden gem often overlooked by mainstream tourists. The drive is scenic, offering stunning views of the Himalayan landscape. On arrival, you’ll explore Choskorong Waterfall, local apple and kiwi orchards, and enjoy the quiet, culturally rich surroundings. The evening is ideal for relaxation amidst Shergaon’s natural charm.
Wake up early to the sound of birds and the golden light spilling into the valley. After breakfast, you can take a guided nature trail or a moderate hike to explore more of the surrounding forests. Depending on your interest and fitness level, a local guide can take you on a trail toward the edge of the Eagle’s Nest Sanctuary. It’s a quiet, meditative experience, walking through the misty pine and oak forests, listening to the rustling leaves and birdsong.
Return to the village for lunch, and in the afternoon, spend time learning about Monpa traditions. You could visit a local craftsperson, perhaps a weaver or woodworker, or observe how local herbal medicines are made. If you’re lucky and your visit coincides with a festival or religious ceremony, you might witness masked dances or community rituals.
Wrap up your day with a slow walk through the village fields at dusk. The views of the valley at golden hour are breathtaking. Many visitors say that Shergoun doesn’t dazzle with grandeur, but rather it seeps into your soul with its simplicity and depth.
Following breakfast, begin your return drive to Guwahati. The road takes you through lush plains and gentle hills, bringing you back to Assam’s bustling capital. On arrival, check in to your hotel. The evening is at leisure—perfect for shopping, walking along the Brahmaputra River, or dining at a local restaurant.
